LUX

Lux is a serious platforming game in which the player embodies a cat who must help his fellow animals by modifying the lighting in order to reduce light pollution. This is a game aimed at young children and was created in a school setting with a team of 13 students.

My contribution

 
  • Creation of a 2D plan 

  • Creation of the blocking based on the 2D plan while adapting the areas that translated less well in 3D

  • Place the characters that give the quests 

  • Place enemies using Navpoints

  • Place lighting and visuals to guide the character towards the objectives. 

  • Supervise and initiate sessions of playtests and communicate the results to the rest of the team. 

  • Using the modular kit for level art

  • Creation of the trailer using the sequencer

In order to illustrate the layout of the game, I made the following map as well as the legend.

Blocking Progression

My first 2D plan changed a lot when it came time to adapt it to 3D. Including area sizes, parking, and moving Lumen into an area that can't be reached until you have the ledge grab, since her quest can only be completed if Lux has this ability.

When the player leaves the Mama Possum area, they must go through a narrow tunnel before arriving in the main game area, creating an arrival and a vista. Also, I took the time to make sure that lumen's 2 lanterns were already visible as well as the first baby opossum. Once at the first opossum, the other two opossums become visible.
The Mama Possum area is a intimate area, which is purposely small to contrast with the rest of the level which is much larger than level 1. It also serves as a tutorial area for the ledge grab.  Once players obtain this ability, Mama Possum prevents them from leaving the area until they picks up the lantern which is only accessible by using the ledge grab. Since, to grab the ledge grab, the player only has to jump on it, I just had to put a ledge grab where the player would naturally jump to try to reach the lantern.

The player starts the level in the district of Maman Possum. It is an intimate zone which is used to make a transition between level one and two.

There are two ways to reach the upper part of the main district and both require the player to have the grappling ability. Both passages lead directly to the area where Lumen is.
